Copper Valley Telecom is currently seeking an Accounting Supervisor to oversee daily activities of Accounting department employees, manage workflow and ensure accurate and timely filing of forms and reports.

Additionally this position will

  • Oversee processing of account payable to ensure accurate and timely payments, filings, and completion of required IRS forms.
  • Oversee processing of payroll to ensure accurate and timely payments, accuracy of benefit calculation, and accurate and timely filing of required state and federal reporting.
  • Schedule employees, check work for accuracy, ensure appropriate staff levels, counsel and encourage employee growth, train employees, and answer employee questions.
  • Ensure work orders are maintained and closed on a current basis, and continue property records are accurate and current.
  • Maintain perpetual inventory system. Recommend and implement procedures to maintain adequate inventory control and accountability.
  • Ensure timely completion of Carrier Access Billings in accordance with NECA and AECA tariffs and processes. Monitor CABS information for irregularities.
  • Ensure all financial statements are completed timely and accurately and that all required reports are filed in a timely manner. Prepare monthly financial analyses.
  • Assist with various activities including preparation of annual capital credit allocations, processing of retirement checks, and preparation of information for cost separation studies.
  • Monitor operating cash levels.
  • Maintain budgetary tracking mechanisms. Prepare necessary support information for budget formulation.

Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities

Knowledge of FCC Uniform System of Accounts, cost separation processes, and NECA and AECA procedures. Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word, PC operating software, AS400 applications software and data extraction methods. Skill in operating various office equipment, oral and written communication, reading and interpreting financial statements. Ability to communicate with customers, employees, and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple work assignments. Ability to maintain confidentiality, work with frequent interruptions, pay close attention to detail, and make sound decisions using information at hand. Ability to create a team environment and sustain employee morale.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field, plus a minimum of three years progressive experience in telephone system accounting with one year in a supervisory capacity preferred. An equivalent combination of college study and experience may also be accepted.

Copper Valley Telecom is currently seeking a Systems Administrator to assist with the operation, maintenance, and upgrade of Copper Valley’s internet access network. This position is based in Valdez, AK and is responsible for maintaining and upgrading hardware and applications systems and ensures the security and integrity of all systems.

Additionally this position will

  • Research and prepare cost estimates and recommendations for new services and enhancement for internet access network.
  • Assist with development and maintenance of disaster recovery plans
  • Ensure adequate equipment, bandwidth and other resources are in service.
  • Assist with installation and maintenance of systems at customer premises; meet with customers to identify needs and requirements; evaluate, design and prepare quotes for equipment and services; and implement systems and services on schedule and within budget.
  • Ensure all network and security concerns are addressed.
  • Assist with research and recommendations for new business lines.  Conduct analyses of potential services and forwards to management for review.  Assist in the development of business and marketing efforts for new and existing product lines.  Assist with policy development for administering new and existing services.

Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities

Knowledge of LAN/WAN topologies, components, and protocols including Ethernet, Windows, UNIX, Linux, switches, routers, firewalls, VPN, subnettings, DNS, IIS, Apache, SMTP, ATM, TCP/IP, xDSL and HTML.  Knowledge of personal computer components such as hard drives, random access memory chips, video cards and processor chips.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field plus four years progressive experience in computer operations, internet service provision, network administration, and/or computer programming. An equivalent combination of college study and experience may also be accepted.  Microsoft MSCE, and/or Cisco CCNA certification preferred.

Copper Valley Telecom is currently seeking a Telecom Network Engineer (I, II, or III) to provide engineering support for both inside and outside communications facilities in Glennallen or Valdez, AK.

The selected applicant will work closely with the Plant and IT Departments of the Cooperative in designing, implementing, maintaining, and upgrading all aspects of the core, access, and distribution networks and associated equipment, including the design and support of services deployed via Ethernet, IP, MPLS, OTN, SONET, and WDM-based platforms.

Additionally this position will

  • Understand general engineering of transport and switching infrastructures.
  • Basic understanding of LAN, WAN, VLAN and VPN operations.
  • General understanding of network design principles.
  • General knowledge of various protocols and systems such as TCP/IP, SIP, Sonet, Ethernet, VoIP and be able to identify/analyze and troubleshoot.
  • Ability to monitor and coordinate contract installations and assist in performance testing.
  • Ability to research, evaluate and recommend appropriate network tools, software, and documentation to assure quality maintenance, monitoring and network administration of local and wide area networks.
  • Ability to perform basic design/troubleshooting of SIP and Hosted PBX voice services.

Education and Experience

Copper Valley Telecom is currently seeking an energetic individual to provide excellent customer service to members and customers. The selected applicant will become very familiar with all company products and services and will be responsible for selling those products, troubleshooting customer issues as needed, and performing various clerical and commercial duties. A strong sense of teamwork is essential for this position.

Additionally this position will

  • Provide excellent customer service to members and customers by consulting about products, services, pricing, and availability; closing sales for new and upgraded services; making outbound sales calls; responding to customer requests and questions; providing customer account information; and maintaining retail spaces and displays according to company standards.
  • Sells wireless handsets and devices by assisting customers in selecting appropriate device according to their needs. Utilize software and hardware tools to program and deploy devices. Troubleshoots customer problems as needed.
  • Processes service orders for new service, disconnects, and changes to customer accounts. Routes service orders to appropriate departments. Ensures application forms and membership records are complete. Reviews deposits, membership, installation fee tariffs, and billing information with members. Assigns telephone numbers to new service.
  • Receives customer payments, post payments to customer accounts, balances cash drawer daily and prepares customer receipt deposits. Processes returned checks as needed. Distributes, documents and replenishes petty cash.
  • Performs clerical and commercial duties including maintaining supply inventory, archiving documents using electronic system, preparing correspondence, and filing various documents.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned by management

Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities

Knowledge of features and functionality of wireless devices. Skill in operating Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Explorer. Knowledge in cash till operations. Knowledge of company products and service and their application to residential and business customers. Ability to make accurate and proper change from amounts tendered, process payments, and administer petty cash. Ability to perform six digit addition, subtraction, multiplication and division calculations at average or better speed. Copper Valley Telecom is currently seeking an Accounting Assistant to join our team! This position may be responsible for any of the following: processing accounts payable, preparing and processing payroll, maintaining the general ledgers, maintaining complete and accurate work orders, and reconciling and preparing inventory records and journal entries.

Additionally this position will

  • Process accounts payable transactions in accordance with schedules and vendor terms. Enter transactions into computer system and print checks. Maintain accounts payable records and complete required reports and registers
  • Prepare and process payroll checks. Update payroll files for status changes, pay rate changes, benefit or withholding changes. Maintain payroll records and prepare required payroll reports in accordance with regulations and established practices.
  • Maintain General Ledger by preparing and posting journal entries, reconciling ledgers, reviewing accounts for accuracy, and ensuring supporting information is attached to provide an audit train. Prepare internal financial statements and various regulatory and industry reports.
  • Maintain complete and accurate Work Order records. Close work orders, allocate costs, prepare journal entries, and reconcile accounts.
  • Maintain complete and accurate Continuing Property Records (CPR). Reconcile physical inventories to perpetual inventory records. Prepare reconciliation journal entries.
  • Process carrier access bills by polling tolls from switching equipment; analyze minutes and revenue information; maintain inventory of special access circuits; maintaining detailed history of access minutes, circuits and amounts billed; preparing various reports; and ensuring current tariffs are applied to all billings
  • Perform clerical and commercial duties including preparing various financial schedules and studies as assigned.

Knowledge of mainframe and PC computers. Copper Valley Telecom is currently seeking a Telecommunications Technician to join our team! This position is based out of our Valdez, Alaska office and is responsible for installation and repair of customer premises equipment, splice fiber cables and cut terminals for new construction. The selected applicant will maintain, expand, replace and repair all facilities required to provide service to customers in this district.

Additionally this position will

  • Install drop wires, station protectors, and network interface devices, and perform initial wiring or rewiring for new subscriber systems
  • Troubleshoot and maintain Central Office switching systems. Queries system for status reports and trouble isolation
  • Maintain and complete records, logs, reports, and as-built documents and forward to appropriate personnel
  • Assist other Technical personnel in the performance of their duties when requested

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of OSP facilities, copper and fiber optic cables and conduit systems
  • Background and working knowledge of splicing, bonding and grounding of both copper and fiber telecommunications sables in accordance with RUS requirements
  • Knowledge of equipment used in construction and maintenance of telephone plant
