Copper Valley Telecom is currently seeking a Director of IT & Engineering to direct, plan and design the effective and efficient use of technology to support CVTC’s services and growth plans. This position is based in either Valdez, AK or Glennallen, AK and is responsible for managing the Information Technology and Engineering department and staffing to monitor, maintain, secure, and upgrade our technology.

Additionally this position will

  • Manage local and wide area network hardware and software installation, maintenance, repairs, and upgrades to ensure network availability. Ensure data and system backups are completed.
  • Monitor network traffic for delays, collisions, etc. and ensures appropriate corrective actions are taken.
  • Oversee installation, configuration and maintenance of operating systems and application software. Ensure current software versions and licenses are maintained.
  • Manage the development, modification and operation of IT security systems designed to maintain integrity of CVTC and affiliates’ infrastructure and data.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement controls, policies, and security measures to safeguard information and guarantee the security and integrity of all system data files and records. Ensure regular network security audits are completed and audit recommendations are implemented, with full scale audits completed biannually.
  • Prepare annual departmental budget, administer budget, and track budgeted items in comparison to actual expenses. Ensure budgetary expenditure levels are not exceeded.
  •   Supervise daily activities of department employees by managing workflow and employee scheduling, checking work for accuracy, ensuring appropriate staff levels, counseling, and encouraging employee growth, training employees, and answering employee questions. Maintain awareness of personnel law and assures adherence with CVTC personnel policies.

Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities

Knowledge of MS Windows operating software and registries, IBM IS400 and Client Access, MS Office software products, internet browsers and proxies, IIS, email, and SQL service. Knowledge of network protocols including Ethernet TCP/IP, FTP, Telnet, SMTP, HYYP, and Wi-Fi, and of ISP operations, including Calix, FTTH, Juniper, and Ciena. Good understanding of network security, cyber security, SEIM, IDS/IPS, firewall, and anti-virus. Knowledge of network and peripheral hardware including servers, hubs, LAN/WAN switches, routers, bridges, modems, printers, scanners, network topologies and wiring standards. Knowledge of personal computer components such as hard drives, random access memory chips, video cards, and processor chips. Knowledge of RUS contract forms, specifications, guidelines, construction manuals and recommended work procedures. Knowledge of plant technologies including switching, transmission and distribution, TDM, VolP, SS7, Metaswitch, and hosted PBX. Skill in analyzing user processes, procedures and needs in order to recommend and implement appropriate, cost-effective systems. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple work assignments and to plan and complete projects on time and within set budget amounts. Ability to make sound decisions using information at hand and in high stress outage situations. Ability to effective manage personnel, create a team environment, and sustain employee morale.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or related field plus four years progressive experience in computer operations, internet service provisions, network administration and/or computer programming, and appropriate telephone technologies.

Copper Valley Telecom is currently seeking a Combination System & Network Administrator (I, II, or III) to provide day-to-day operation of computer systems and networks through the organization in Glennallen or Valdez, AK.

The selected applicant will maintain computer networks, monitors, network and system performance, and collect data to enhance security and reliability.

Additionally this position will

  • Deploy and maintain computer systems, software and non-telecom networks
  • Provide user technical support, specifically direct 2nd level support to end users
  • Provide guidance on IT-related processes and procedures
  • Resolve help desk queries when 1st level support needs assistance
  • Conduct data backups
  • Prevent data loss by performing and verifying data backups.
  • Follow internal and/or external guidelines to back up data according to a schedule, while also backing up data as requested by the Director of IT and Networking

Education and Experience

Combination System & Network Administrator I: Associates’ degree in Computer Science or related field. An equivalent combination of college study and experience may also be accepted. Two years progressive experience in computer operations, network administration, and/or computer programming is preferred. Experience designing and working with databases is required.

Combination System & Network Administrator II: Bachelor’ degree in Computer Science or related field. An equivalent combination of college study and experience may also be accepted. Two years experience with a scripting language. Four years progressive experience in computer operations, network administration, and/or computer programming is preferred. Experience designing and working with databases is required.

Combination System & Network Administrator III: Bachelor’ degree in Computer Science or related field. An equivalent combination of college study and experience may also be accepted. Experience managing project from conception through implementation. Six years progressive experience in computer operations, network administration, and/or computer programming is preferred. Experience designing and working with databases is required.

Copper Valley Telecom is currently seeking a Systems Administrator to assist with the operation, maintenance, and upgrade of Copper Valley’s internet access network. This position is based in Valdez, AK and is responsible for maintaining and upgrading hardware and applications systems and ensures the security and integrity of all systems.

Additionally this position will

  • Research and prepare cost estimates and recommendations for new services and enhancement for internet access network.
  • Assist with development and maintenance of disaster recovery plans
  • Ensure adequate equipment, bandwidth and other resources are in service.
  • Assist with installation and maintenance of systems at customer premises; meet with customers to identify needs and requirements; evaluate, design and prepare quotes for equipment and services; and implement systems and services on schedule and within budget.
  • Ensure all network and security concerns are addressed.
  • Assist with research and recommendations for new business lines.  Conduct analyses of potential services and forwards to management for review.  Assist in the development of business and marketing efforts for new and existing product lines.  Assist with policy development for administering new and existing services.

Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities

Knowledge of LAN/WAN topologies, components, and protocols including Ethernet, Windows, UNIX, Linux, switches, routers, firewalls, VPN, subnettings, DNS, IIS, Apache, SMTP, ATM, TCP/IP, xDSL and HTML.  Knowledge of personal computer components such as hard drives, random access memory chips, video cards and processor chips.

Education and Experience

Copper Valley Telecom is currently seeking an IT Technician (I or II) to join our team! This position will be responsible for providing technical support in a help desk fashion for Copper Valley Telecom’s Corporate, Broadband, Managed Service Provider (MSP), and Wireless Networks. This position is also responsible for supporting System Administrators in the installation, operation, and maintenance of the aforementioned areas.

Additionally this position will

  • Provide technical support to Copper Valley Telecom’s Corporate, Broadband, Managed Service Provider(MSP), and Wireless Networks by answering phone calls and responding to help desk tickets
  • Support Copper Valley Telecom’s Corporate, Broadband, Managed Service Provider(MSP), and Wireless Networks by assisting System Administrators with maintaining routers, servers, and other equipment. Maintaining identity Systems, updating filtering systems, and ensuring security and integrity of all systems as well as maintaining inventories.
  • Provide input regarding designs, costs estimate, and recommendations for new services and enhancements for CVTC networks. Investigates and evaluates new product offerings for the inclusion into the network or as replacements for existing elements.
  • Assist with installation and maintenance of systems at customer premises by ensuring systems and services are implemented on schedule and ensuring all network and site security concerns are identified and addressed.

Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities

Copper Valley Telecom is currently seeking a Telecom Network Engineer (I, II, or III) to provide engineering support for both inside and outside communications facilities in Glennallen or Valdez, AK.

The selected applicant will work closely with the Plant and IT Departments of the Cooperative in designing, implementing, maintaining, and upgrading all aspects of the core, access, and distribution networks and associated equipment, including the design and support of services deployed via Ethernet, IP, MPLS, OTN, SONET, and WDM-based platforms.

Additionally this position will

  • Understand general engineering of transport and switching infrastructures.
  • Basic understanding of LAN, WAN, VLAN and VPN operations.
  • General understanding of network design principles.
  • General knowledge of various protocols and systems such as TCP/IP, SIP, Sonet, Ethernet, VoIP and be able to identify/analyze and troubleshoot.
  • Ability to monitor and coordinate contract installations and assist in performance testing.
  • Ability to research, evaluate and recommend appropriate network tools, software, and documentation to assure quality maintenance, monitoring and network administration of local and wide area networks.
  • Ability to perform basic design/troubleshooting of SIP and Hosted PBX voice services.

Copper Valley Telecom is currently seeking a Purchasing Assistant to assist with purchasing, receiving, and inventory management. This position with be responsible for preparing and submitting purchase order requests and the verification, receipt, and distribution of materials and general inventory.

Additionally this position will

  • Process and track return and repair of electronics and other equipment
  • Prepare, distribute and track requests for quote from vendors and suppliers
  • Maintain inventory of office supplies
  • Track orders and communicate information to requesters of material shipment and order delays
  • Process inventory transfers between stores
  • Train employees on purchasing and inventory elements of the CVTC accounting software as needed
  • Assist with sale and disposal of surplus assets including surplus electronic equipment, construction equipment and vehicles
  • Keep inventory of electronics warehouse and distribute materials as needed

Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities

Knowledge of purchasing principles and practices. Knowledge of personal computers and associated peripheral hardware, software and operating systems. Skill in operating Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Explorer. Ability to communicated with customers, employees, vendors, and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner. Ability to coordinate and work closely with all company departments.
