2026 CVTC Board of Directors Candidates

Jessica Britt

Valdez

I have spent more than 25 years working in telecommunications and information technology, building and supporting communication systems that connect people, businesses, and communities. My career has included leadership roles in operations, project management, and strategic planning, where I worked with teams to improve performance, manage resources responsibly, and ensure reliable service delivery.

For the past two years, I have also worked as a consultant in marketing and digital communications, helping organizations strengthen transparency and better connect with the people they serve. I also serve on the Board of Directors for The Bell Jar Collective; a local nonprofit focused on meaningful community impact.

I have proudly called Valdez home for the past 13 years. I understand how essential dependable telecommunications are for everyday life in rural Alaska – from small businesses and schools to families and emergency services.

If elected to the CVTC Board, I hope to support thoughtful long-term planning, strong financial stewardship, and clear communication with members. I believe the role of the board is to set direction, ensure accountability, support strong leadership, and protect the cooperative’s mission for the benefit of its members.

I am committed to serving with integrity, common sense, and a deep respect for the communities CVTC represents.

Karen Feero

Valdez

Hello, my name is Karen Feero, and I would like to be elected for the CVTC Board. Here is a little history about me: I am the first member of my very large family to be born in the State of Alaska.

My parents and older siblings were born in the Territory of Alaska. I am proud of my Alaskan family history which dates to the Klondike Gold Rush of 1897.

After being born and raised in Southeast I attended and graduated from college in Washington and returned to Anchorage. I lived in Anchorage for 16 years before moving to Valdez in 1996 with my family.

When arriving in Valdez I entered the life of a volunteer mom. In the past I have volunteered and been involved with the local PTA, Charter Board Member of the Valdez Youth Court, Valdez Emblem Club, Valdez Eagles Auxiliary, Pioneers of Alaska, and Valdez Fire Department Volunteer. Along with volunteering, local non-profit organizations contact me to bake my locally known “Crème Brulé” dessert for auction items.

I retired in the fall of 2024 after thirty-five (35) years of working for local and state government. My family also operated the local Smiling Seal Quilt Shop and TWIC Office that closed in 2019 due to family health issues.

The past nine (9) years I have placed my life on hold to deal with life events, but I am ready to start volunteering once again. And I would like to start with volunteering for the Copper Valley Telephone Cooperative Board.

Scott Malone

Valdez (Incumbent)

My name is Scott Malone, I was born and raised in California, and that is where I found my career path. I was very good at going into struggling businesses and helping them turn their business around. One day I took a wild chance and applied. to run the Best Western here in Valdez, AK.

Once I moved here I was hooked on the raw beauty of the wilderness, the tight knit town and unique feeling that is Alaska. I met my wife and her children in Valdez as well as some of the best friends I have ever had. I have been involved in many community positions including planning and zoning, the Eagles, the Elks, VCVB, Relay for life and Connecting Ties.

I have had the opportunity to gain a wide range of skills, including budgeting, planning, leadership and organizing. I very much enjoy being able to help keep this community as amazing and special as it is. It has been my privilege to have spent the last three years serving on the CVT Board of Directors. It has been a great experience, and I would like to continue serving our members and the community.
